SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — PKNS FM Integrated Sdn Bhd (PKNS FMI) will manage and maintain the placement of foreign workers, ensuring both the sector’s workforce safety and the Selangor’s sustainability.
Its chief executive officer, Shamshul Bahari Ahmad, said his organisation oversees the infrastructure of temporary placement quarters (TLQ) or centralised worker quarters (CLQ), built based on their experience during the fight against Covid-19 in 2020.
PKNS FMI, established earlier this year, has also been appointed to manage the new industrial area in Taman Perindustrian Hijau (GRIP) Kota Puteri, Kuala Selangor.
“We plan, maintain, develop, and efficiently operate infrastructure facilities in the TLQ, CLQ, and GRIP areas for migrant workers’ comfort and well-being.
“Through planning with the latest technology and information management systems, PKNS FMI will be able to provide the best service to foreign workers in Selangor,” he told SelangorKini.
Besides managing dormitory placements, they are also responsible for maintaining PKNS-owned building facilities, including supermarkets, offices, and service apartments.
Shamshul said the Selangor State Development Corporation’s (PKNS) asset management department formerly handled these responsibilities, but PKNS FMI was established to provide better services and manage more external parties.
“So we will manage all PKNS assets. Starting early next year, we aim to manage 50,000 CLQ units in Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Klang, with RM120 million in total cost.
“The Laman Lestari development project on a 4.35-acre site will be completed within three years.
“While waiting for the CLQ to complete, we will also carry out the TLQ project. It has a shorter completion time, with 1,000 placements expected to be built within six months and an estimated 8,000 units next year,” he said.
In conjunction with the recent Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2023, PKNS FMI signed a two-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PKNS and Inter Great (M) Sdn Bhd to develop migrant workers’ facilities.
Shamshul said the MoU, signed at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, can reduce construction costs while still ensuring quality returns.
