Do not stop pursuing higher studies, Tengku Permaisuri tells graduates

SHAH ALAM, Nov 18 — Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin encourages graduates to continue studying after completing their diploma and degree courses.

Her Royal Highness, who is also Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) pro-chancellor, said knowledge is the basis for forming a high civilisation and seeking knowledge is a noble deed.

“The culture of acquiring knowledge needs to be enhanced because Malaysia needs problem solvers to help the country face increasingly complex challenges,” Tengku Norashikin said in the royal address on the first day of the 98th convocation of UiTM at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor today.

Her Royal Highness said a university should also continue to empower research as a mission in advancing knowledge, encouraging innovation, and addressing current societal challenges.

“To encourage research programmes to be carried out at institutions of higher learning, especially at the Master’s and PhD levels, opportunities for collaboration with industry need to be increased,” Tengku Norashikin said.

Her Royal Highness added the industry can be a joint supervisor for the graduates because they can contribute ideas that can solve problems in the real-world industry.

The university should not only emphasise the academic aspect but also the development of talent and the personality of graduates.

Earlier, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin presented doctorate degrees and the Masters’s degrees to 125 people.
