SHAH ALAM, Dec 26 — The recent Parti Amanah Negara election has strengthened the moderate Muslim party’s unity in the face of rising nativist politics.

Its newly-elected Women’s deputy chief for the 2023-2026 session, Anfaal Saari, emphasised the party’s resilience and unity following a series of political upheavals since the 2018 general election.

“This (party) election has solidified our ranks and bolstered our collaborative spirit after navigating the ups and downs of politics since the formation of the Pakatan Harapan-led government in 2018, the Sheraton Move episode, and a succession of elections from 2020 to 2023,” she said in a series of posts on social media site X.

The Selangor state executive councillor and Taman Templer state assemblyman also thanked the delegates at Amanah’s annual convention over the weekend, who elected her to the top leadership and pledged to perform her duties with utmost dedication.

“I am grateful for the delegates’ trust and seek their prayers for my success in fulfilling these responsibilities,” Anfaal said.

Apart from being the Women’s deputy chief, she was also elected to the party’s national leadership committee alongside 26 other members after being amongst those with the highest number of votes.

Meanwhile, Anfaal lauded Amanah delegates for their debates in the recent convention, which focused on government policies and governance, reflecting the party’s commitment to national interests.

“This aligns with Amanah’s role in the unity government,” she said.

In the leadership election, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu was reappointed by Amanah’s new central committee as the party president.

This will be his third and final term at the helm, in line with the party’s constitution limiting the president’s tenure to three consecutive terms.

Senator Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa was appointed the new deputy president, succeeding the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The trio of vice-presidents now include Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, former Seri Serdang state assemblyman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, and Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari.

Amanah’s constitution stipulates that the top five leadership roles are determined by the 27 members of the leadership committee elected by the party delegates.

In the internal polling, Dr Dzulkefy garnered the most votes with 900, followed by party communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof, and former vice-presidents Mujahid and Datuk Mahfuz Omar.

Notably, Sabu secured the eighth most votes with 613.
