SHAH ALAM, Dec 27 — A total of 4.8 million domestic and international tourists visited Selangor between January and September this year, with several districts emerging as among the top destinations.
Tourism Selangor’s corporate communications manager Ahmad Nazri Tashriq Rahmat said the Petaling district received the highest number of visitors at 2.8 million people.
This is largely attributed to gastronomic attractions like cafes, as well as its variety of shopping malls.
“Other districts like Hulu Selangor also recorded a substantial surge in tourist arrivals, with an increase of 244.9 per cent, or 58,353 individuals. Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor saw an increase of 181 per cent or 48,660 people.
“These two districts are among those which experienced a high number of visitors this year,” he said when contacted today.
Nazri added that domestic tourists from Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Perak, and Pahang constituted 38 per cent of the total arrivals, while foreign visitors, including those from China, Japan, and India, comprised 46 per cent.
Previously, state executive councillor for tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said Selangor recorded 2.9 million visitors within the first half of this year, generating RM21.9 billion in total tourist expenditure.
Last year saw Selangor retain its top position in domestic tourist arrivals, welcoming a remarkable 22 million visitors, far surpassing other states.
Kuala Lumpur came in second with 16.9 million visitors, followed by Sarawak (15.5 million), Perak (14.6 million), and Pahang (13.2 million).
