SHAH ALAM, Feb 1 — Selangor Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional (BN) have come to an agreement, in principle, on the allocation of local councillors’ posts in the state, according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Free Malaysia Today quoted him as saying the concerns raised by BN have been addressed in a recent meeting, although several proposals are currently under consideration.
“We just need to finalise those suggestions. I believe we can conclude the matter before or after the State Legislative Assembly sitting. It will be before Ramadan,” he said.
The Selangor Harapan chairman was speaking to the press after attending the four-day Chinese New Year Balik Kampung Cultural Festival at the Pavilion Bukit Jalil shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur today.
Amirudin added that his office will arrange a meeting with state BN chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin soon to finalise the matter.
However, all current appointments will continue to ensure the local councils can operate smoothly.
Previously, state executive councillor for local government Ng Suee Lim was reported to have said the 20 current vacant councillor positions are still available for BN.
This is after the Umno-led coalition purportedly turned down the initial offer by the state government.
Out of the 12 local authorities in Selangor, Klang remains the only council yet to swear in their councillors for the 2024-2025 term.
In total, there are 288 councillor positions across the dozen councils.
