SHAH ALAM, April 30 — Selangor’s economic approach based on humanitarian principles has proven to yield abundant results, enabling people to enjoy a higher quality of life.

State executive councillor for entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said this aligns with the Madani Economy framework introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which the state has long been practising within an economically prosperous and empowering context.

“Since 2008, starting with the administration of the late Menteri Besar (Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim) and when Anwar was Selangor’s Economic Advisor, the concept and approach of people-centric economics were introduced.

“It is not just about how many skyscrapers or profit-driven buildings are developed, but also about how the economy is approached from different angles to uplift, dignity, defend the people, as well as humanitarianism,” he said.

Najwan was speaking at the Humanitarian Economic Forum’s (Forum Ekonomi Manusiawi or FEM) Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering and the 4th Annual General Meeting today.

He added that the economic policies of empowering the people are applied in all aspects of state development, including entrepreneur empowerment.

“My commitment is clear, and we share the same spirit of continuing efforts to advance the community’s economy while eradicating hardcore poverty in Malaysia.

“Collaboration from all (quarters) is necessary to enhance public understanding of Madani Economy’s importance and its impact on a higher quality of life for society,” Najwan said.

Meanwhile, FEM chairman Nik Mohd Yusoff Nik Ismail said Malaysia Madani and the Madani Economy concepts are not just political slogans but long-term commitments to rebuilding the nation.

“By building based on human development, the Madani economy is humane in nature, with comprehensive values to improve human life and bring about change,” he said.
