HULU SELANGOR, April 30 — The Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, Pang Sock Tao, will launch her manifesto this Friday, just over one week before the May 11 polling day.

Without going into details, Pang, who is representing the Unity Government, said among her pledges include welfare initiatives and development plans for the constituency in Northern Selangor.

“Pertaining to development in Kuala Kubu Baharu or any other plans that I have for the community here, I will announce the details in my manifesto this Friday.

“I will reveal then what we have to offer and my plans for the constituents,” she told reporters after visiting the Orang Asli community in Kampung Tun Abdul Razak, here, yesterday. Also present was Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor.

Separately, Pang gave her commitment to safeguard the rights of all races in the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency if she is given the mandate by voters, saying that it is her aspiration to ensure the welfare of all residents here.

“If I win, the first thing I’ll do is guarantee the people’s welfare, regardless of race, religion and background.

“I also want to be the bridge between the Federal and state governments to empower the rights and welfare of the indigenous people. I will fight for them,” she said.

Earlier, Pang, accompanied by state executive councillors Ng Sze Han and V. Papparaidu, spent about an hour meeting and mingling with traders and visitors at a night market in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

Her visit was well received by the public. She also distributed about 100 copies of the Selangorkini newspaper.

Meanwhile, Pang revealed that she had moved to Kuala Kubu Baharu prior to the nomination day on April 27 as part of her efforts to better understand and foster relationships with the community here.

Pang, 31, will face Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainudin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin in a four-cornered fight.

The Election Commission has set May 11 as polling day, with early voting scheduled for May 7.

According to the latest electoral roll by EC, Kuala Kubu Baharu has 40,226 registered voters consisting of 39,362 ordinary voters, 625 policemen, 238 military personnel and spouses, and one overseas absentee voter.

The by-election was triggered following the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong on March 21. She was a three-term assemblyman.

In the last state election in August last year, Lee won the seat with a 4,119 majority, garnering 14,862 total votes against PN’s Teoh Kien Hong (10,743 votes), Muda’s R. Siva Prakash (1,186 votes), and PRM’s Chng Boon Lai (527 votes).
