KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Social media influencer Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, commonly known as Papagomo, has been arrested for investigation into an allegedly seditious video he uploaded, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
Azri was arrested at his home in Setapak this afternoon.
“The arrest was made after police received a report regarding his seditious video questioning the move of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, in meeting KK Mart owner Datuk Seri Chai Kee Kan at Istana Negara, which was uploaded on his social media page,” he said when contacted.
Razarudin said the police are applying for a remand order against Papagomo to assist in the investigation, in accordance with Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Earlier, a video went viral on Facebook showing Papagomo being arrested by police officers at his residence in Setapak.
