Acid attack: Footballer suffers second-degree burns

SHAH ALAM, May 5 — Selangor executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi confirmed that Selangor FC and national winger Faisal Halim, who was splashed with acid at a shopping mall today, suffered second-degree burns.

He said in a statement today that Faisal is undergoing treatment at a hospital near here after suffering burns on his neck, shoulder, arm and chest.

He said he has been in touch with Selangor FC management and was told the winger is in stable condition.

Najwan, who is Kota Anggerik assemblyman, also condemned the attack.

“Pray that Faisal is given the strength and courage to face this setback, and may he recover soon,” he said.

Earlier, media reports said Faisal was splashed with liquid believed to be acid when he was at a mall in Kota Damansara near here.

Meanwhile, Football Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin advised Faisal to forget about football for the time being as he recuperates from the acid attack.

Hamidin, when met by reporters at the hospital today, expressed disappointment over two incidents involving national players Faisal and Akhyar Rashid.

Terengganu FC winger Akhyar suffered head and leg injuries after being attacked by two robbers near his home in Kuala Terengganu on May 3.
