SHAH ALAM, May 30 — Tourism Selangor has awarded RM10,000 in grants to six local artists who participated in the Reka Lestari environment-inspired competition which it organised earlier this year.

The six winning artists and their projects are Ahnaf Hakimi (Wayang Robot), Syiborisyd and Aruznadi (Scaling Up Scraps), Parti Design Awangan (Pagar 2π), Jamil Zakaria (Deru Arus), Cheng Yen Peng (Dung Beetle – A Participatory ‘Dirt’ Exploration), and Khabir Roslan (The Light of All Things).

The state tourism agency said the provision of the grant is a demonstration of its commitment to fostering local talents, with a mission to position Selangor as the next creative industry hub.

The winning projects will be showcased at the upcoming Tukang Design and Craft Festival 2024, curated by Intan Rafiza Abu Bakar from the National Art Gallery.

The festival, now in its second edition, will take place at The Spine, PJKita in Petaling Jaya from June 5 to June 9 and is expected to attract over 8,000 domestic and international visitors.

“The Tukang Festival promises a vibrant array of interactive activities, including innovative exhibitions, art workshops, design talks, a pop-up art and craft bazaar, and music performances.

“It aims to not only display the incredible talents of local artists but also provide an immersive experience in the world of art and crafts,” it said in a statement today.

Reka Lestari, organised in collaboration with Rantai Art, will feature performances by local indie music bands, including Daliliyana, Kingsley Chen, Lorita Nyepit, Ocean Astronaut, and Amir Alif.

“Additionally, the festival will host various vendors offering food, coffee, snacks, pastries, arts and crafts,” Tourism Selangor said.
