HULU SELANGOR, May 1 — The nation’s first Orang Asli representative is confident that the indigenous community will fully support the Unity Government’s candidate in the ongoing Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election.

Cameron Highlands MP Datuk Ramli Md Nor said history has proven the Orang Asli community is very loyal to Barisan Nasional (BN), in addition to listening to and following their leaders’ advice.

“I do not wish to boast, but historically, the Orang Asli voters have never parted ways with BN. I want my community here to vote for the Unity Government candidate.

“I believe my people (Orang Asli) have never failed to heed the words of their leaders. We are a faithful group,” he said.

Ramli was speaking to the press after accompanying Unity Government candidate Pang Sock Tao in a programme with the Orang Asli community at Kampung Tun Abdul Razak on Monday (April 29).

The Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker also advised the Orang Asli, especially youths, to not be easily influenced by social media platforms like TikTok.

He also hopes the 1,279 Orang Asli voters residing in seven villages in Kuala Kubu Baharu will fulfil their responsibilities on May 11.

“I hope the Temuan ethnic group in Kuala Kubu Bharu will never forget our loyalty. Vote for the Unity Government candidate because we are allies,” Ramli said.

The Kuala Kubu Bharu state by-election is being held following the passing of its state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.

The Election Commission (EC) has set May 11 for the polling day, with April 27 as the candidate nomination day.

Early voting has been scheduled for May 7, with a 14-day campaigning period.
