AMPANG JAYA, May 5 — Flat Sri Impian in Ukay Perdana has become the first housing area to host a mini library under Program Didik Selangor, which was launched today.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Borhan Aman Shah said the move by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) aims to foster an interest in reading among children as a free leisure activity.

Borhan said PPAS has spent RM130,000 to develop the mini library, which is equipped with reading materials, a reading area, a pantry, a computer, air conditioning and an Internet connection.

“So far, the state has 105 mini libraries, including the one launched at Flat Sri Impian today, which is the first one built in a residential area.

“PPAS, with the Selangor Housing and Property Board’s cooperation, aims to build mini libraries in residential areas throughout the district in stages,” he said when met during Program Rewang Komuniti Strata-Aidilfitri here today.

At the same event, Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin said the library initiative will contribute towards the social development of children in the neighbourhood.

“Children get to gather and socialise in a harmonious environment through activities such as reading together, helping each other with schoolwork and playing.

“It will build even closer relationships among the future generation, uniting the community even further no matter religion, race or background,” he said.
