Selangor residents urged for feedback on state development plan

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

SHAH ALAM, May 9 — Selangor residents have been invited to check and give feedback on the Selangor State Structure Plan Draft 2035 (Transformation) from today until June 8.

Through the Selangor State Structure Plan Draft 2035 (Transformation) Publicity and Public Participation Programme launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the people can submit their views on the proposed strategies.

Amirudin said the public participation was to ensure Selangor has a comprehensive development and planning framework with consideration for current issues.

“It is a significant matter; the framework for 2035. Selangor’s development has foundations and principles that must be adapted to the (current) situation.

“This is a framework for Selangor with clear foundations … This is not merely our (the Unity Government’s) framework, but a framework of the people’s voices,” he said during the event at the MBSA Convention Centre today.

At a press conference after the event, Amirudin said the state structure plan is a revision of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) that was announced in 2017.

“This is transformation. It means it is not new; we announced the plan (RS-1) in 2017 and it has undergone a transformation process. The transformation was based on current reactions, developments and surrounding trends.

“It may be that one of our focuses will be suburban development, which could catalyse development in areas that have not been included in development plans.

He also mentioned grand-scale district plans including the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda), Selangor Maritime Gateway Economic Development Zone (ZPE SMG), and Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss).

The state government, through Federal Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia@Selangor), transformed the Selangor State Structure Plan 2035 to recalibrate current principles and policies at the international, federal and state levels that have not been amended or added to since the announcement in 2017.

With 17 strategic directions, 73 policies and 522 implementation initiatives, this plan can recalibrate current development trends for Selangor, as highlighted in RS-1, such as Idriss, Sabda, ZPE SMG, KLIA Aeropolis, Subang Airport Rejuvenation Plan, and the development of a third port in Pulau Carey.

The Selangor State Structure Plan Draft 2035 (Transformation) can be viewed at the lobbies of Bangunan Darul Ehsan and Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam, as well as Premis F5 of the PLANMalaysia headquarters in Putrajaya.

The draft document, objection forms and further information are available here and on the PLANMalaysia website.
