PETALING JAYA, May 16 — In Selangor, vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities have the chance to develop their talents and potential in business, thanks to the Selangor Youth Community’s Leadership Entrepreneurship Acceleration and Development League (SAY LEAD).
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi said the comprehensive programme includes various modules to ensure the sustainability of the entrepreneurial ecosystem for the group.
“I am confident this programme provides opportunities for vulnerable groups, especially the disabled and young people, to ensure they are not left behind and can develop their potential.
“The economic development of Selangor is not only focused on able-bodied entrepreneurs but also includes a complete and extensive entrepreneurial ecosystem that uplifts and supports the disabled,” he said in his speech at the final round of the fifth edition of SAY LEAD at Sunway Resort Hotel yesterday.
SAY LEAD project manager Abdul Azim Naim Rahman said the programme has received an enthusiastic response from disabled entrepreneurs.
“We aim for more participants next year, around 60 compared to 30 this year, so that more people can benefit.
“We may also enhance the existing modules to meet current needs and increase collaboration with various entrepreneurship-related agencies to expand the network further,” he said.
Earlier at the event, Selangor Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah named three individuals Selangor Disabled Entrepreneur Icons.
The fifth edition of the SAY LEAD programme, which began in October last year, involved 30 participants who underwent courses on entrepreneurial profiling, business model canvases and business planning.
Other courses included branding and digital marketing, financial management, sharing sessions with related agencies, as well as workshops and business presentations.
