HULU SELANGOR, May 4 — Serendah is set to be transformed into one of the country’s primary logistics hubs thanks to a transit station that will be operational there once the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project that connects Kota Bharu and Port Klang completes.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said this would encourage further economic activities in the area, including the import and export of goods.

“There are many factories operating here in Serendah, some near Tanjong Malim, which is an automotive hub. Serendah will soon be a logistics hub for transporting goods and cars via rail.

“This will open up numerous job opportunities and address any issues of unemployment,” he said during the Unity Government’s mega ceramah in Batang Kali here yesterday, in conjunction with the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Meanwhile, state executive councillor for trade and investment Ng Sze Han said the industrial areas surrounding Serendah will continue to be developed to ensure various job opportunities for the youth.

He noted that since 2020, the area, which is renowned for its automotive and electronic industries, including being home to the operations of major companies like UMW and Perodua, has recorded investment values totalling up to RM2.7 billion.

Ng said the industrial hub has also successfully created 6,000 high-impact job opportunities, while drawing in 53 different investments into the district.

“The country’s main and biggest automotive hub is in Serendah. There’s Perodua and Nissan, among others. It is also home to one of the world’s largest solar panel factories.

“If we visit the solar panel plant, Perodua and UMW Aerospace, we will see that the engineers are locals, and many of them are from Hulu Selangor.

“As such, Hulu Selangor has also become a place of choice to build families. This is our goal in Selangor — for the youth to build families while being able to live together,” he said.
