Bursa hovers above 1,600 on strong investor sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning trading session on a positive note, with the key index remaining above the 1,600 psychological level as investor sentiments remained strong.

At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI rose 3.25 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 1,611.78 against yesterday’s close of 1,608.53.

The barometer index opened 3.29 points higher at 1,611.82 and fluctuated between 1,609.34 and 1,617.05 throughout the morning session.

Gainers beat losers 604 to 451, with 464 counters unchanged, 849 untraded and 10 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 3.02 billion units worth RM2.15 billion.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said artificial intelligence, data centres and cloud services in Malaysia are set to create potential trading opportunities.

“Within the technology sector, we see continued growth opportunities for companies involved in hard disk drives, cybersecurity, and hardware supply.

“Additionally, we are optimistic about construction, property, and utilities stocks benefiting from the data centre trends in the near to mid-term. Other sectors that may perform well under these conditions include shipping and logistics, with rising shipping and charter rates,” it said in a note today.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank and CIMB Group added 1 sen each to RM9.99 and RM6.90, respectively, Tenaga Nasional rose 44 sen to RM13.70, and IHH Healthcare gained 5 sen to RM6.23.

Meanwhile, Public Bank shed 1 sen to RM4.12.

Among the actives, WCT Holdings increased 18 sen to 80.5 sen, JCY International rose 4.5 sen to 66 sen, Sealink International climbed 4.5 sen to 34.5 sen, SNS Network Technology gained 2.5 sen to 67.5 sen and KGW Group added 1.5 sen to 22.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index rose 46.11 points to 12,286.09, the FBMT 100 Index gained 36.24 points to 11,880.05, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 75.24 points to 12,562.66, while the FBM 70 Index advanced 103.72 points to 17,641.87.

However, the FBM ACE Index decreased slightly by 0.17 points to 5,467.44.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index perked up 17.24 points to 17,608.41, the Energy Index gained 8.81 points to 961.13, the Industrial Products and Services Index slipped 0.28 of-a-point to 196.29, and the Plantation Index fell 36.7 points to 7,100.42.
