‘Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka’ theme of 2024 National Day

PUTRAJAYA, June 5 — “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka” has been chosen as the theme of the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebrations this year, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced.

He said the theme represents the holistic unity in a developing and progressive nation comprising a diverse and strong-spirited population.

“Malaysia Madani, with its six core values, is the backbone of the country’s prosperity and progress,” he said when announcing the theme and logo of the 2024 HKHM celebrations here today.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching and Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.

Fahmi said the Cabinet agreed to retain the last year’s HKHM logo for this year.

The minister, who is also 2024 HKHM Main Committee chairman, said the announcement provides an opportunity for the corporate sector, private entities, non-governmental groups and other parties to join the government in enlivening the HKHM celebration with their own printed materials and programmes.

On programmes throughout the National Month, Fahmi said the Communications Ministry has started implementing various activities across the country.

He said celebrations kicked off with the launch of the “Ekspresi Bulan Kebangsaan” programme at KL Sentral on May 19, while the launch of the 2024 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign is scheduled for July 13.

“This launch ceremony is to count down to the 2024 National Day celebration on August 31 in Putrajaya. Subsequently, the momentum of excitement and patriotic spirit will continue to be fostered until the 2024 Malaysia Day celebration on September 16 in Sabah,” he said.

Fahmi announced other activities in the HKHM calendar — the Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Convoy, which would carry national messages and distribute Malaysian flags at each stop; the Langkah Jiwa Merdeka Bersama Membangun Malaysia Madani Programme; the Semarak Gemilang Kita Madani Programme; the inter-ministerial Perkampungan Madani, Jiwa Merdeka Programme; and the Pentarama Live Jam.

“Details for all programmes for the National Month celebration can be found at the official 2024 HKHM portal,” he said.

Fahmi said flying the Jalur Gemilang will continue to be promoted through the “One House, One Jalur Gemilang Initiative”. He called on Malaysians to decorate their homes with the Jalur Gemilang.

“Let’s fly the Jalur Gemilang in its complete form — not torn, not damaged, and not faded — as the flag is a reflection of ourselves as responsible citizens,” he said.
