MFL lowers Selangor FC’s fine, reverses three-point deduction

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, June 27 — The Malaysian Football League (MFL) board today adjusted its penalties on Selangor FC after the team’s no-show at its May 10 Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

The MFL reconsidered the penalties after Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s royal rebuke yesterday with regard to the football authority’s decisions.

Its board of directors decided that:
1. Selangor FC’s fine will be reduced from RM100,000 to RM60,000.
2. Selangor FC must still pay compensation to the MFL and JDT for losses incurred due to their absence from the season opener at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor.
(The MFL said it will gather information on losses incurred by JDT and the MFL secretariat, which will be handed over to Selangor FC for further discussion.)
3. Selangor FC’s three-point deduction in the 2024/2025 Super League is cancelled.
(If Selangor FC repeat the offence, the case will be brought to a disciplinary committee and stricter action will be taken.)
4. Spectators are allowed to watch the Super League match between Selangor FC and JDT at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium.

Selangor FC can appeal against the revised penalties within three days from today, as provided for under the rules in the Malaysian League Manual.

Selangor requested a postponement of the Charity Shield match following an acid attack on star winger Faisal Halim on May 5, and several other incidents involving local football players, but the request was rejected.

The decision saw JDT being awarded a 3-0 walkover victory and given three points in the Super League.

The three-point deduction saw Selangor, previously ranked second in the Super League with nine points, fall to fifth place.
