SHAH ALAM, June 12 — More than 3,000 Rumah Selangorku affordable housing units under the Smart Rental Scheme will be provided by 2026 to help newly-married young couples.
State executive councillor for housing Borhan Aman Shah said the initiative is also an administrative strategy to ensure Selangor residents can own their own homes.
“Via this scheme, newly married couples can rent for five years at an affordable price. This helps them start their new lives.
“After that period, 30 per cent of their rental payments will be used as a deposit to purchase either Rumah Idaman or Rumah Harapan units,” he said.
He was speaking to the press after officiating the Selangor Strata Residential Building Management Enhancement Seminar at the Midlands Convention Centre in Section 7 today.
The Smart Rental Scheme provides an opportunity for low and middle-income groups to own their own homes.
With a maximum rental period of five years, tenants will be given a 30 per cent refund of the net rental amount paid when they no longer resident in the unit.
By 2025, the state government aims to build 60,000 housing units through the Rumah Selangorku 3.0 housing policy.
