SHAH ALAM, Jun 11 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) intends to build the state’s largest exhibition centre as part of the SA Central city rejuvenation project.
PKNS chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas said the construction of the centre, which will be of international standard, is designed to meet Selangor’s need to organise more trade exhibitions.
“We aim to develop this area as a trade centre. Apart from offices and other facilities, it is also essential to have an exhibition centre.
“However, this centre will not be solely for trade exhibitions; it will also integrate a royal gallery that showcases Selangor’s history,” he told reporters after attending the Selangor International Bicycle Race (SIR) pre-launch at the Shah Alam Convention Centre here yesterday.
At the event, he introduced five SIR ambassadors and prominent national cyclists — Olympian Adiq Husainie Othman; sprint ace Anuar Manan; rising amateur Zanika Zailan; Australian Criterium Championship winner Izat Roslan; and Powerman 2024 champion Hafiz Hamid.
Last week, Mahmud said the SA Central project would transform the state capital into a golden triangle, providing significant economic benefits to local businesses.
He said the project will incorporate cultural and historical elements and centre green technology to align with sustainable development goals.
In April, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced the rejuvenation project, costing RM2 billion, would start at year-end and include SACC Mall, Plaza Perangsang, PKNS Complex and MRCB Tower.
Amirudin said the project is set to be finished in eight to 10 years, with the aim of boosting the economy of the state capital.
