Police discourage public from attending Demi Negara rally in Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — Police have advised the public against participating in a rally to be held in the public carpark in front of the Seri Perdana Complex, Putrajaya, on Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the venue owner, Putrajaya Corporation, had not granted organisers permission to hold a rally as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

He said strict action would be taken against anyone who attends the event.

Rusdi said police received a notification letter from the rally organiser on June 14 about the gathering, but no permission was given by the venue owner.

“The landowner (Putrajaya Corporation) does not allow the assembly there and we advise the organiser, known as Demi Negara, not to continue with the assembly,” he told a presser at the Brickfields police headquarters here today.

Rusdi said police found a viral TikTok video inviting the public to join the rally.

Police received 85 reports about the issue and have opened an investigation paper under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
