Selangor logs third year with highest domestic tourist arrivals

By Sheeda Fathil

SHAH ALAM, June 14 — Selangor has recorded the highest number of domestic tourist arrivals for three consecutive years, with 27.6 million visitors recorded last year, according to recent data gathered by Tourism Selangor.

The state tourism arm’s chief executive, Azrul Shah Mohamad, said this figure surpasses that of all other states. Kuala Lumpur came in second with 22.2 million visitors, and Sarawak third with 17.9 million.

“In 2021, Selangor received 10 million domestic visitors, and this number increased to 22 million in 2022.

“This sustainable growth significantly boosted Selangor’s gross domestic product, contributing RM 2.571 billion in 2023,” he said in a statement today.

He added that this remarkable performance is testament to the success of the domestic tourism campaign “Nak Bercuti? Pusing Selangor Dulu!”, which promotes 10 diverse tourism segments across nine districts.

“This campaign has laid a solid foundation for the upcoming Visit Selangor Year 2025.

“Next year, we aim to attract eight million domestic and international tourists. We are committed to enhancing our tourism offerings and ensuring Selangor remains a top tourist destination,” he said.
