Selangor women’s policy, action plan among focuses of state assembly

By Yasmin Ramlan

PETALING JAYA, June 27 — The State Legislative Assembly will highlight the implementation of the Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2026.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the action plan, which was launched last month, aims to focus on issues such as flexible working hours for women and gender mainstreaming, which needs the involvement of all parties.

Anfaal said gender mainstreaming, for instance, is a focal point in the plan, with four state executive councillors leading efforts towards its implementation.

Departments under these councillors will initiate programmes to identify gender mainstreaming needs.

“As part of the action plan, state agencies like the Selangor Housing and Property Board will conduct a study on home ownership among women on Saturday,” she said.

Anfaal was speaking to reporters after officiating the Selangor Creative Cities Conference at the Petaling Jaya City Council Civic Hall here today.

She said the action plan covers sectors including education, health, investment, youth and entrepreneurship.

The second sitting of this year’s State Legislative Assembly is scheduled for July 4 to 18.

The public can watch the assembly live on Selangor TV’s site or its YouTube channel.

The Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2026 was launched on May 31 to centre the group’s well-being and enhance their capabilities.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said during its launch that among the policy’s primary objectives is to develop sustainable gender equality, with the state setting a benchmark in line with international standards.

The policy and action plan comprises seven objectives, including promoting a gender-sensitive framework; improving the socio-economic status and autonomy of marginalised women; accelerating women’s participation, representation and decision-making; and bridging the gender gap in education and labour markets.

The newly launched plan was inspired by the state’s previous Selangor Women Policy 2017-2020.
