SHAH ALAM, June 22 — Selangor is aiming for 61 gold medals in the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Sarawak, to be held from August 17 to 24.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said he is confident Selangor can achieve a top three finish.

“We are targeting 61 gold medals in all 37 events in which we are competing. If we obtain more gold medals, we would be grateful.

“The 61 gold medals will, God willing, put Selangor in the top three,” he said when met at the PREC Pickleball Championship and Arena ATAS court launch at SACC Mall here today.

Najwan said the list of athletes who will participate in Sukma will be released next month.

“We will announce the athlete list in early July, as our athletes are busy undergoing intensive training to ensure their physical and mental preparedness.

“It also depends on coaches’ evaluation on athletes’ performance and readiness for the event,” he said.

In Sukma 2022, Selangor scored a top three finish with 31 gold, 55 silver and 44 bronze medals.
