SHAH ALAM, July 10 — Hulu Selangor’s tourism potential, particularly in Kuala Kubu Baharu, which is rich in ecotourism activities, should be utilised, said Kuala Kubu Bharu state assemblyman Pang Sock Tao.
Based on data from extreme sports activity operators and orchard stay entrepreneurs, Hulu Selangor attracted 336,894 visitors last year, a 52 per cent increase compared to 220,968 in 2022.
She said this proves that the tourism offerings and attractions in Hulu Selangor are growing and not only receiving a positive response from Malaysians but also visitors from around the world.
“Kuala Kubu Baharu can contribute more to Selangor’s tourism sector development
“Therefore, I propose the state government include Hulu Selangor and particularly Kuala Kubu Bharu, in the Selangor State Tourism Master Plan within the First Selangor Plan (RS-1),” Pang said during the RS-1 Mid-Term Review debate at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly yesterday.
Simultaneously, maintaining and upgrading public facilities around tourist destinations, particularly public toilets, ought to be enhanced and expedited.
“Additionally, I propose improving public transport accessibility by establishing Demand-Responsive Transit vans in Kuala Kubu Baharu,” she said.
Making the ecotourism sector the main economic source for the residents of Kuala Kubu Bharu was part of Pang’s election manifesto during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election in May.
Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said RS-1 plays a crucial role in ensuring that Selangor makes history by recording RM406.1 billion in economic activity value in 2023.
