KUALA LANGAT, July 19 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), through its charitable foundation, has set aside RM1 million this year to help victims affected by disasters.

MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said as of July, a total of RM500,000 has been utilised, including cash aid distributed yesterday to 75 victims of a recent severe storm in Telok Panglima Garang.

“Every year, we have an allocation for disaster relief. It doesn’t matter what kind of disaster, be it a flood, storm or fire.

“Donations are not only focused on the victims but also on repairing homes, mosques, surau and schools that have been hit by disasters,” he said after distributing the donations, here.

On April 14, several houses in Kampung Telok Panglima Garang were reportedly damaged by a thunderstorm.

In August last year, MBI contributed a total of RM124,700 to assist storm victims in Morib and repair a damaged fisherman’s jetty.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had said that out of the amount, RM76,000 was donated to the 152 affected families, with each receiving RM500.

The remaining RM48,700 was channelled to a fishermen’s representative for repair works on the damaged jetty at Kampung Kelanang, Morib.
