State monitors digital SMUE distribution to ease service centres’ burden

SHAH ALAM, July 11 — Selangor is evaluating the digital distribution for the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE), said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.

She said the new method, implemented last year, will be monitored.

“The digital implementation focuses on registration and online redemption as it can reduce the burden (congestion) at service centres,” she told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

Anfaal was responding to a supplementary question from Permatang assemblyman Nurul Syazwani Noh, and added that SMUE benefited 263,141 recipients last year while 6,331 families received death aid.

“Death aid remains at RM500 as there are other incentives, such as the Selangor General Insurance Scheme and Iltizam Selangor Sihat.

“If it needs to be topped up, all death aid initiatives must be refined,” she said.

The Selangor Budget 2024 included RM16.48 million for the Jom Shopping programme for SMUE recipients on their birthdays, with each person receiving RM200 to buy essentials.
