JOHOR BAHRU, July 23 — Police have detained three people to assist in investigations into six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui’s disappearance.
The girl went missing from a shopping mall in Iskandar Puteri on Saturday.
Johor police chief M. Kumar said the two men and a woman aged between 28 and 55 were arrested at around 1.30pm in Iskandar Puteri yesterday.
The child has not been found.
“The investigation is being conducted under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abducting with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person,” he said in a statement.
He advised the public to refrain from making speculations that could disrupt the investigation and to channel any information to the Johor police hotline at 019-279 2095 or the operations room at 07-221 2999.
Earlier, Iskandar Puteri police chief M. Kumarasan asked for the public to help locate the child, whose father noticed she was missing from the shopping mall at about 8.30pm.
Kumarasan said Albertine is 120cm tall and slim, with long black hair and fair skin, and was last seen wearing shorts and a white T-shirt with a picture of Mickey Mouse.
Johor executive councillor for women, family and community development Khairin-Nisa Ismail @ Md On said information can be channelled through WhatsApp at 019-261 5999, district Social Welfare Offices, or Talian Kasih at 15999.
“The state government has instructed all agencies under this committee to spread publicity on the disappearance of the child,” she said in a statement last night.
