Exco welcomes Jalan Klang Lama project to expedite Selangor public transportation usage

SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — The initiative by Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to launch the Bus Lane Pilot Project on Jalan Klang Lama starting this Thursday (August 15) is a welcome move, said state executive councillor for investment, transport, and mobility Ng Sze Han.

To that end, he requested the public to remain patient during the project’s trial period, as well as to provide constructive feedback so the initiative is successful and can continue for the common good.

“The state government always supports the empowerment of public transportation initiatives like bus lanes and is committed to facilitating bus routes in corridors connected to Selangor, including Jalan Puchong and Jalan Ampang,” he said in a statement today.

Ng added that the project aligns with the state government’s aim to accelerate the transition from private vehicle use to public transportation in four of Selangor’s cities — Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang —under the proposed Greater Klang Valley administrative enactment.

“The use of public transport will reduce traffic congestion and carbon footprint, making Selangor and the Klang Valley a more liveable region.

“Recognising the success of the bus lane projects in the Jalan Ampang and Jalan Genting Klang corridors, with a 27 per cent and 42 per cent increase in passengers respectively since last year, the state government believes this third corridor, starting from Jalan Puchong to Jalan Klang Lama, near Jalan Halimahton, will have a positive impact and successfully achieve the intended targets,” he said.

As Kinrara state assemblyman, Ng said he believes this service will benefit the residents of his constituents.

“This is especially for those in Taman Kinrara, Bandar Kinrara, and Bandar Puchong Jaya who work in Kuala Lumpur, in addition to complementing the existing public transport network in the area, including Light Rail Transit stations, bus services, and the Demand-Responsive Transit system,” he said.

Yesterday, Rapid Bus announced the 6.37-kilometre-long Bus Lane Pilot Project, the third bus lane project for Rapid KL.

Rapid Bus chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij said the project is expected to help reduce travel time and traffic congestion in the area involved and save travel time up to 10 minutes from Kinrara to the city centre.
