Kusel strategy to improve underground utility mapping and safety — MB

SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — Selangor has developed the Selangor Utility Corridor (Kusel) since 2020 with the aim of coordinating and organising the underground utility mapping system in the state, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Though it involves high costs, the agency, said Amirudin, is responsible for monitoring the registration and arrangement of utilities to avoid unexpected incidents.

“Sometimes, the government must spend more as utility transfer is needed for infrastructure projects. Costs could increase to between four to five times.

“Through (Kusel), early preparations can be made, planned projects can be completed on time and we can arrange facilities that need to be developed so costs are more effective,” he said today.

He was elaborating on the state government’s preparations in relation to underground mapping, following a sinkhole incident along Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur, recently.

When met after the Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia closing ceremony at Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam here today, he said the unexpected incident along Jalan Masjid India serves as a reminder to all to exercise more caution.

Also present was PNB Group chairman Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Tun Uda.

“We need to be prepared but cannot jump to conclusions too quickly (regarding the incident). What is important for us is to serve the people and ensure their safety and well-being,” Amirudin said.

On Friday, a tourist from India, identified as Vijayaletchumy, 48, fell into an 8m-deep sinkhole after a sinkhole opened under her as she walked past Malayan Mansion in Kuala Lumpur at 8.22am.
