PUTRAJAYA, Aug 5 — The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) is closely monitoring the development in Lebanon.
In a statement today, it said it is actively communicating with the Malaysian embassy in Beirut, Malaysia’s Defence Ministry and the United Nations to assess the status and safety of the Malaysian Peacekeeping Battalion (Malbatt) 850-11 stationed in Tibnin and Marakah, as well as other Malaysians in Lebanon.
Wisma Putra confirmed that to date, no reports of Malaysians being affected by the recent exchanges of fire in southern Lebanon. However, the situation remains unpredictable.
It urged all Malaysians not part of Malbatt who choose to remain in Lebanon to be in regular contact with the embassy and to adhere strictly to any guidance and instructions provided by local authorities.
“Those who have not yet registered with the embassy are strongly encouraged to do so immediately to ensure they receive timely updates and support,” Wisma Putra said.
It will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all Malaysians in Lebanon.
