SABAK BERNAM, Aug 20 — Selangor has identified several localities here for rezoning and recategorising to boost development in those areas.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the district must undergo a change of landscape to ensure it can be developed as an industrial and tourism area.

He said Sabak Bernam must also be equipped with facilities as detailed in the  Local Plan Draft of the Sabak Bernam District Council (Replacement) 2035.

“Several localities have been zoned as industrial, residential and tourism areas. To develop industrial zones, we are ready to bear owners’ land costs.

“This landscape change is necessary to develop Sabak Bernam. The contents of this draft was curated over a year and will be a guide for the Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB),” he said.

When met after officiating the plan today, Amirudin said the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) is an example of a development in progress.

He stressed that the state administration prioritises the people over upgrading MDSB to a municipality.

“We don’t just want the title; it must fulfil the criteria set by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

“The state government must think of boosting this area, and one such effort is Sabda, which has potential and is attractive,” he explained.

Yang Dipertua MDSB Azman Dahlan said the local draft plan is proof the district can be proactive and create more jobs.

“In the study, it was shown the population (in Sabak Bernam) will grow due to more jobs and higher income, towards becoming a liveable city,” he said.

The draft encompasses aspects such as economic prosperity, religious appreciation, strengthened familial institutions, knowledge acculturation, and administrative transparency.

It contains five cores, with 17 development strategies and 176 development recommendations in form of projects, programmes, controls and management to drive Sabak Bernam’s progress.
