SHAH ALAM, Aug 30 — In the spirit of Merdeka, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has called on the people to promote unity and refrain from spreading or getting involved in misinformation related to race, religion, and royalty (3R).
In a statement issued by the Selangor Royal Office today, His Royal Highness also reminded the public to not involve the royal institution in slander or misinformation driven by excessive politicking.
“On this occasion, I would like to call upon all citizens to take shared responsibility in fostering and nurturing national unity, without poisoning the minds of the people with negative elements, especially concerning the 3R issues, as we uphold the parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy.
“The Royal Institution should not be dragged into slander and defamation related to political issues. The Royal Institution is ‘above politics.’
“Therefore, any form of critique or criticism towards the government and the Royal Institution should be voiced through proper channels and carried out with decorum,” said Sultan Sharafuddin.
His Royal Highness also reminded Malaysians that Independence is not merely about freedom from the clutches of colonisation and chanting the slogan “Merdeka!” alone.
“True independence requires the sacrifice of spirit and mind, nurtured through the development of identity via four key aspects: religion, ethics and morality, education, and language,’’ said Sultan Sharafuddin.
The Ruler also expressed the hope for the younger generation to be wiser in facing and resolving the challenges in the future for the betterment of the nation.
“The spirit of patriotism, tolerance, and mutual respect must continue to be instilled in the hearts of the younger generation and manifested in strong unity, enduring harmony, and freedom from any negative elements.
“I am confident that by embracing the true meaning of independence, we can rekindle the spirit of love for the country, ultimately shaping a developed and progressive nation,’’ said His Royal Highness.
