GENTING HIGHLANDS, Aug 1 — Selangor is on the right track to realising its aim of constructing 200,000 affordable homes by 2026, said the state executive councillor for housing Borhan Aman Shah.
The programme implemented under Rumah Selangorku aims to build 40,000 housing units each year, with each project currently progressing according to schedule.
“We aim to build 200,000 affordable homes by 2026, with 40,000 units each year. Based on our records, it is being achieved, and we are monitoring the construction process.
“We have also moved the Rumah Selangorku Housing Policy from 2.0 to 3.0, which also helps build the Rumah Idaman and Rumah Harapan models for the Smart Rent project,” he said during a press conference today.
Earlier, Borhan officiated the 2024 First Class Strata Management Symposium at Resorts World Awana, organised by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS), with MPKS President Mohamad Hanafee Basri in attendance.
Over 150 participants from various agencies nationwide attended the biennial symposium.
Meanwhile, the councillor said that over 1,000 Smart Rent housing units have been provided by the state government since the scheme was first introduced in 2015.
Many developers have expressed interest in helping to build Smart Rent homes, which also offer various facilities including parking areas and swimming pools.
“This scheme does not exist in other states, only in Selangor. There are now more than 1,000 housing units, and I am confident that 3,000 Smart Rent homes will be achieved by next year,” he said.
Smart Rent provides an opportunity for low and middle-income groups to own their own homes.
With a maximum rental period of five years, tenants will be given a rental refund of 30 per cent of the total net rent paid when they no longer live in the unit.
