SEOUL, Sept 10 — Local military industry players have been urged to spearhead the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the sector to keep pace with rapid technological advancements.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said AI technology is being increasingly applied in military fields.
He said local industry players possess their strengths, as AI is a technology that was developed and introduced by the commercial sector.
“I believe local industry players have the capability to pioneer AI technology in the military sector thus allowing the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to utilise their technologies.
“We have local companies involved in AI development that can be applied in the commercial sector,” he told reporters here today after attending the Responsible AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) Summit 2024 here today.
Khaled added that local industry players who have ideas for AI development can present them to the Defence Ministry for potential use by the MAF, thus utilising locally developed technology in the military sector.
REAIM 2024 is jointly organised by South Korea’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Defence Ministry, along with co-organisers the Netherlands, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.
Malaysia is among 90 countries participating in the summit.
