SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — A padi field carnival in Sabak Bernam in November is set to enliven promotions for Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025).

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the fair, which will feature watersports and be held by various parties, is expected to draw many visitors especially from the northern part of the state.

“During the carnival, we will hold various interesting activities, (such as) community sports and observing local residents’ activities like planting padi.

“This is among steps taken by the administration to draw more tourists. We are not focusing VSY2025 in urban areas alone, but in all parts of the state,” said Ng.

The opening of SkyCity Tower at i-City near here in December, on the other hand, will serve as VSY2025’s newest attraction to draw more tourists to the state.

Ng said besides the 54m tower, Gamuda Luge Gardens in Rawang and Gamuda Splash Mania in Kuala Langat will also be highlighted in the event.

“These three sites are among the new locations set to attract many visitors. We are confident the three locations will boost tourist numbers.

“We will ensure existing locations are maintained and have infrastructural facilities that will make visitors comfortable,” he told Media Selangor.

SkyCity Tower, which was built to the tune of RM15 million to be Shah Alam newest landmark, features an LED lamp system and 600m glass slide.

Amirudin said the tower is set to attract around five million visitors, which is 70 per cent of the target of seven million visitors next year.

Meanwhile, Ng said VSY2025, which will begin January 1, will be launched on New Year’s Eve on the night of December 31 by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In addition to a fireworks show, Ng said several artistes will perform at the launch, a line-up that may include Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and foreign singers.

“We are still in the planning stage. The location hasn’t been decided yet, but we will choose a suitable one as we expect more than 10,000 attendees,” he said.

VSY2025, which features over 60 programmes over the next year, is set to draw eight million domestic and foreign tourists, with a receipt collection target of RM11.7 billion.
