SHAH ALAM, Sept 12 — The first day of the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) 2024 received overwhelming response, recording over 30,000 pre-registered visitors and achieving its target of RM1.3 billion in potential transaction value through the signing of 12 memorandums of understanding (MOUs).
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said he expects the figure to further increase by the end of the show on Saturday, with more than 30 MOUs to be signed over the next two days.
“The RM1.3 billion target set by the state government has already been achieved. As of today, we have seen 12 MOUs signed.
“As we anticipate over 30 more MOUs to be signed in the next day or two, I am confident we will far exceed our initial transaction value target,” he told reporters on the sidelines of SAS 2024 at SkyPark Regional Aviation Centre, Bukit Jelutong, here today.
Last year’s SAS boasted a total transaction value of RM823 million. This year, the state set a target of RM1.3 billion, an increase of 50 per cent.
Meanwhile, Ng said, the Women in Aviation Awards, which is being held as part of this year’s SAS for the first time, aims to encourage greater participation of women in various aviation sectors, including engineering and management.
“One of the benefits of this year’s SAS is our focus on empowering women in aviation.
“We aim to encourage greater participation of women in the industry,” he said.
Ng believes many women have the skills to excel in the industry. Today, they represent only about 20 per cent of the overall aviation workforce.
“We (the state government) give our assurance there will be more women participating in the industry in the future,” he said.
