SHAH ALAM, Sept 4 — The state is helping more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to enter the export business to strengthen their network and enhance their global competitiveness.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the effort, through Selangor Export Day, paved the way for 230 entrepreneurs from 147 companies to explore opportunities to widen their markets.
“In challenging economic environments, entrepreneurs must be more proactive and innovative. This programme supports and guides SMEs to succeed in foreign markets,” he said today.
Ending tomorrow, the second edition of Selangor Export Day was held in collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and Selangor State Development Corporation at the Shah Alam Convention Centre.
At the event, Najwan presented accreditations to several entrepreneurs who have marketed their products internationally.
He said nine entrepreneurs under the State Economic Planning Unit will be sent to Nanning, China, mid-month to host booths at a trade expo.
Meanwhile, Matrade in the statement said Selangor Export Day will increase the state’s total trade and encourage companies’ involvement in the export business.
Matrade senior board of directors member Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin said the projection was based on the RM491.86 billion in trade value from the overall total of RM1.652 trillion last year.
