SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation’s (PKPS) Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) initiative recorded a total sales value of RM20.4 million from January to August this year.
This represents an increase of almost 80 per cent compared with the same period in the preceding year.
PKPS chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi noted that the sales value from the affordable basic goods programme in the first eight months of 2023 was RM11.4 million.
“This amount (RM20.4 million) was achieved across 628 locations in all 56 state constituencies in Selangor where the programme was organised. Among the best selling items were chicken, eggs and rice,” he told Media Selangor.
The JER programme offers whole chicken at RM10 each, solid beef at RM10 per pack, Grade B eggs at RM10 per tray, mackerel at RM6 per pack, 5kg cooking oil at RM25, and 5kg rice packs at RM13 each.
This year, JER will be held in over 1,800 locations, in addition to the affordable sales programme at Segi Fresh supermarkets on weekends.
On Sunday, PKPS launched its first Ehsan Mart, which offers basic goods for up to 15 per cent cheaper than market prices.
The supermarket, which is planned for launch in all constituencies in the next three years, is a continuation of the JER, which has been organised since 2022.
PKPS, in collaboration with Segi Fresh, also plans to open 10 Segi Fresh Ehsan supermarkets this year. The first branch was launched in Bagan Nakhoda Omar, Bernam Jaya.
In December last year, PKPS was accorded the 2023 Quality Management Award at the United Nations Climate Change Conference for its outstanding achievements, including the management of the JER.
The state agency was also recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for holding the largest sale of subsidised chicken and eggs within the span of two days, in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration last year.
