SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — The cash crop programme under the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has successfully guided farmers to harvest high-value yields, bolstering the state’s food security agenda.
Mohammad Izzat Ismail, a recipient of the High-Value Cash Crop Project grant, praised PKPS for providing extensive guidance and support, particularly in ensuring harvests are completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The 33-year-old owner of Dusun Cikgu Mail, who has been farming since 2016, said the financial assistance provided has facilitated his purchase of supplies.
Having started with durian cultivation, Izzat expanded his Dusun Cikgu Mail enterprise in Hulu Selangor by planting Sekaki Callina papaya last year.
He is now adding two more acres for papaya cultivation.
“With the incentive I received from PKPS, I built a large roof to support 10 tanks and fertiliser stock. We’re currently working on a solar pump and a tank house, which is 90 per cent complete,” he said during the Hai Selangor programme aired on SelangorTV today.
“The cash-based incentive allows farmers to decide what supplies they need. This is an excellent scheme and should continue,” he added.
In a related development, Selagro Solutions Sdn Bhd chief operating officer K.N. Ramana said the collaboration between PKPS and the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry has helped farmers achieve yields within a year, compared with five years previously.
“Selagro Solutions, as a subsidiary of PKPS, is responsible for ensuring the success of this crop project. We use a system known as ‘smart farming’.
“This programme includes a planting calendar, allowing us to control yield throughout the year. When we produce goods in our state, we create new jobs and wealth.”
Naidu said PKPS’ efforts to develop farmers also aim to strengthen the food security agenda under the Selangor Agro Transformation Plan.
“In case of any issues, we will have a source of raw food for three months. These farmers will provide raw food sources for us if there are any conflicts or shortages, thus supporting the state government,” he said.
