KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — The number of flood victims at 26 temporary relief centres (PPS) in flood-hit states has dropped to 3,411 people this afternoon from 3,880 victims this morning.
According to the National Disaster Management Agency’s (Nadma) Disaster Control Centre, the drop was due to the closure of two PPS in Melaka, leaving only five states still affected by floods as of 4pm today.
In Perak, the number of evacuees at the 11 PPS in five districts increased to 1,459 people (463 families) from 1,456 people (461 families) this morning.
A similar situation was recorded in Selangor, with the number of evacuees increasing to 105 people (57 families), from 33 people (nine families), while in Perlis, the number increased to 28 people (nine families) compared with seven people (four families) this morning.
A positive development in the flood situation in Kedah was reported with only 203 victims (64 families) at four PPs in the Kota Setar and Pendang districts from 621 people (182 families) this morning.
In Pahang, the number of flood victims at eight PPS in the Temerloh district dropped to 1,616 people (483 families), compared with 1,752 people (529 families) this morning.
Meanwhile, one PPS was opened in Sarawak to accommodate 67 people, involving 19 families, who lost their homes in a fire.
Quoting a Public Works Department report, Nadma said that Jalan Weng Weng Dalam and Jalan Ulu Leging/Weng/Tanjong Pari in Baling, Kedah, have been closed due to a landslide.
