PETALING JAYA, Oct 25 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has set aside RM900,000 to upgrade Urban Park 1, here, next year.
Its mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the upgrade will cover an area of approximately 4.9 hectares through the Rejuvenasi Taman Rakyat (People’s Park Rejuvenation) programme.
“MBPJ will improve infrastructure such as pedestrian walkways, multipurpose areas, public restrooms, landscaping, and drainage systems.
“All of this work will start next year, in keeping with the low-carbon city theme, allowing residents to enjoy a more beautiful and well-maintained park,” he said when met after officiating the Deepavali donation handover ceremony to underprivileged Indian residents around Petaling Jaya at the MBPJ headquarters, here yesterday.
Zahri said that the development of Urban Park 1 will also focus on ecological needs, site biodiversity, and stakeholder requirements in phases from 2025 to 2027.
“Next year, MBPJ will focus more on the core responsibilities of local authorities, including upgrading drains, restrooms, and more,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zahri said 60 individuals received contributions in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration next week.
He said each recipient received RM300 in cash assistance to prepare for the festive season.
“This contribution is part of MBPJ’s ongoing initiative to provide community service by helping ease the burden of the B40 (low-income) group in celebrating Deepavali.
“The recipients were selected based on the e-Kasih database in the Petaling Jaya area as well as those registered under MBPJ’s Urban Poverty Eradication Programme,” he said.
Zahri added that 12 families also received contributions through the 3R PJKita Jalinan Kasih Programme, where the recipients are given the opportunity to visit the MBPJ recycling centre and choose second-hand items, such as clothing, alongside a RM300 shopping voucher.
“MBPJ remains committed to organising welfare programmes to support various underprivileged communities during festive seasons, bringing joy and making the Festival of Lights a truly meaningful celebration.”
