Prabowo unveils 48-member Red, White Cabinet, blending experience, fresh faces

JAKARTA, Oct 21 — Indonesia’s newly-inaugurated President Prabowo Subianto has unveiled his 48-member Red and White Cabinet, blending familiar faces from former President Joko Widodo’s administration and fresh appointees.

The ministers, including 18 from Joko Widodo’s Indonesia Onward Cabinet (Indonesia Maju) were sworn in during a ceremony at the State Palace in central Jakarta today.

Prabowo’s newly-established Cabinet exceeds 34 ministers under Joko Widodo’s administration. These strategic appointments aim to address the challenges of the 2024–2029 term.

Among returning ministers are Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.

Key appointments include Zulkifli Hasan as Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Pratikno as Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono as Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure.

The Cabinet also features new faces like Yusril Ihza Mahendra as Minister of Law, Human Rights, and Immigration; Muhaimin Iskandar as Minister of Community Empowerment; Sugiono as Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as Minister of Defence; and Meutya Hafid as Minister of Communication and Digital.

Prabowo also appointed five ministerial-level officials including ST Burhanuddin as Attorney-General, Muhammad Herindra as Head of the National Intelligence Agency, AM Putranto as Chief of the Presidential Staff, Hasan Nasbi as Head of the Presidential Communication Office, and Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as Chairman of the National Economic Council.

During the ceremony, Prabowo recited the oath of office “I pledge to carry out my duties with the utmost integrity, working diligently and with a full sense of responsibility,” which was echoed by the newly appointed ministers.

The new ministers and officials will work alongside Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to serve the world’s third-largest democracy and the largest economy in Southeast Asia.
