IPOH, Oct 14 — The police nabbed a senior assistant teacher at a primary school on Friday (October 11) on suspicion of molesting a female student at the same school.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the 37-year-old unmarried suspect was arrested following a report lodged by the victim’s 47-year-old mother, who alleged her daughter had been hugged and kissed by the suspect.
“According to the report, the victim, aged 12, had been hugged and kissed several times as well as received indecent photographs from the teacher involved
“The suspect, who has been serving at the school for eight months, has been remanded for six days from Saturday (October 12) until October 17 to assist in investigations under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017,” he said during a press conference at the Perak contingent police headquarters today.
Yesterday, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the Education Ministry is ready to provide counselling services to the victim.
According to a China Press report, the victim’s mother found indecent photographs on her daughter’s handphone which were sent by the said teacher in September through the WeChat and Instagram apps.
