SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — The draft of the Selangor Care Economy Policy will be presented as a motion in the State Legislative Assembly session, which is scheduled for November 15.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the policy draft for 2024 to 2030 will also be brought to the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting today.

“We will present and debate it (in the State Legislative Assembly). When the presentation motion is unanimously accepted, it will be adopted as a policy to be implemented for that period,” she said.

Anfaal said the policy, aimed at addressing the challenges of an ageing nation and enhancing social welfare, encompasses five pillars and 37 action plans that will create a better care ecosystem.

The pillars cover advocacy and promotion, governance and regulation, trained supervisors and carers, collaboration and investment, as well as data, which will be implemented in phases.

“The listed action plans also have their own stakeholders with specific roles. Over these six years, the first phase will run from 2024 to 2026, followed by the second phase from 2027 to 2030,” she said.

Apart from welfare, the policy also aims to elevate the care ecosystem as an economic opportunity, particularly for women, generating income opportunities.

From an economic perspective, Anfaal said the policy also aims to provide a conducive ecosystem for investors, especially in areas related to technological development and care centres.

“This is a good opportunity for any company that sees an ageing nation as an economic opportunity through technological development, including care support equipment for the elderly, like wheelchairs and so forth,” she said.

Previously, Anfaal said the Selangor Care Economy Policy, expected to be launched next month, would serve as an important framework to address the challenges of an ageing nation.

In addition to the elderly, the policy also covers the childcare and women’s care economy sectors, thereby enhancing social welfare.
