SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 — Selangor is courting major Turkish aerospace and tech firms as part of its ambitious plan to transform the state into a regional tech and defence manufacturing hub.

State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han, who led a delegation to Turkiye this week, held high-level meetings with Turkish Aerospace Industries (Tusas) and defence electronics leader Aselsan in Ankara.

During the visit to Tusas, accompanied by Malaysian Ambassador to Turkiye Sazali Mustafa Kamal, Ng inspected the KAAN fifth-generation fighter jet facility, signalling Selangor’s serious interest in advanced aerospace technologies.

The delegation also toured Bilkent Cyberpark, Turkiye’s largest technology park, which houses over 325 research and development companies.

Impressed by the park’s 95 per cent success rate in its incubation programme, Ng also proposed an exchange programme with Selangor’s incubators.

“Experiencing the collaboration and forward-thinking mindset here reinforces the importance of innovation in Selangor’s own journey towards becoming a leader in advanced technology,’’ he said in a series of social media posts.

The delegation, which included representatives from Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, Invest Selangor Bhd, and Cyberview, also visited TCG Derya, a newly commissioned combat support ship, highlighting potential opportunities in maritime defence technology.

At the Saha Expo International Defence and Aerospace Exhibition, the team promoted Selangor’s upcoming IC Design Park 2 in Cyberjaya, set to open mid-2025.

Also highlighted were success stories like Kota Kemuning-based Vencast, which supplies components for Turkish aircraft.

Ng said the visit positions Selangor to attract high-tech investments and establish itself as a key player in the aerospace and defence industries, even leveraging Turkish expertise to accelerate its development plans.
