Selangor floods: 136 evacuees at relief centres, two rivers at danger level

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — The number of flood victims in Selangor rose from 117 last night to 136 as at 8am this morning.

Nationwide, 3,781 victims are sheltering at 27 relief centres (PPS) in five flood-hit states, including Selangor.

In Perak, 1,619 people are housed at 12 PPS in Kerian, Hilir Perak, Kampar, Perak Tengah and Kuala Kangsar, compared with 1,459 people last night, said the National Disaster Management Agency.

In Perlis, the number of evacuees rose to 469 this morning from 47 last night, while Kedah note a similar situation with 298 victims in three PPS compared with 137 people last night.

Pahang flood situation however has improved, with 1,259 victims at PPS this morning from 1,418 last night.

According to the Public Infobanjir site, five rivers are at danger level — three in Sarawak and two in Selangor.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Selangor (Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak and Petaling), Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar), Negeri Sembilan (Rembau), and Sarawak (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi).
