SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — The Selangor government on Wednesday gazetted an edict declaring GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) as having deviated from Islamic teachings.

In a statement, Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said all Muslims in the state are prohibited from practising, adhering to, following, teaching, spreading, promoting, and supporting the beliefs, teachings, practices, or actions of GISBH and its networks.

Those who disobey, violate or dispute the gazetted fatwa will be deemed to have committed an offence under Article 12(c) of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.

“Referring to the fatwa that was gazetted, the beliefs, teachings, practices, or actions of the leaders, followers, employees, or members of GISBH and its networks contain elements that deviate from the true teachings of Islam, according to the beliefs of the Ahli Sunnah Waljamaah,” he said today.

Aziz said according to the fatwa, any Muslim who has joined, practised, or adhered to the prohibited beliefs, teachings, or practices must immediately repent and seek forgiveness from God.

“The relevant authorities are responsible for carrying out rehabilitation for those individuals.”

He said Mais, together with other relevant state agencies, has formulated and initiated a rehabilitation action plan for GISBH followers, including children.

The programme aims to offer protection and guidance, as well as restore the faith of GISBH followers, and includes a counselling process.

Aziz also expressed Mais’ support for the voluntary rehabilitation programme recently offered by the federal government to followers and members of GISBH and its networks.

“We welcome GISBH followers and members to voluntarily participate in this rehabilitation initiative.

“Mais and Islamic agencies in Selangor have committed to providing cooperation and assistance in terms of manpower, financial resources, facilities, and expertise to support the programme carried out by both the federal and state governments.”

On October 3, the Selangor State Fatwa Committee concluded that the leaders, followers, workers and members of the GISBH and its networks have practised and were practising Aurad Muhammadiah, which was declared deviant on February 4, 1993.

The committee said the belief, held by the Al-Arqam sect, was determined to be deviant from true Islamic teachings.
