KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — The Selangor government aims to develop and promote the works of local designers and architects, with the goal of showcasing the creativity of the design industry on the international stage.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the state is open to partnerships and offering guidance to advance the industry.

“I believe by providing a platform for interaction between industry experts, potential clients, suppliers and partners, we will be able to drive the globalisation of this industry.

“I also want to emphasise the importance of innovation and smart design in our efforts to achieve environmental, social and governance goals,” he said after the launch of the International Rekatone Excellence Design Awards at Pavilion Embassy Service Suites here today.

The inaugural awards ceremony, organised by interior design platform Rekatone.com, aims to recognise the work and talent of individuals and companies in the nation’s design and architecture fields.

Najwan urged all designers, architects and industry players to continue delivering quality, creative and ethical services.

He said the design industry faces challenges related to fraud, with around 1,200 cases reported nationwide last year, resulting in RM50 million in losses.

“These cases involve false promises, poor-quality work and unfinished projects. Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure this industry operates transparently and responsibly,” he said.
