CAIRO, Nov 7 — The water supply and cleanliness issues that have plagued 130 residents of the Selangor dormitory in Hayyu Asyir, Nasr City, for the past year are set to end following a US$12,520 (RM54,406) contribution to resolve these issues.
The dormitory upgrade contribution by the state government via Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI was warmly received, bringing relief to the dormitory residents as well as its management.
Selangor Education Attaché (Middle East) Muhammad Zulhusni Abdul Rashid said the facilities at the dormitory, located about 18 kilometres from Cairo, need improvement for the comfort and health of Selangor’s students.
“InsyaAllah, this assistance will be used to upgrade the water tank function to increase its capacity, as the dormitory frequently experienced water supply disruptions.
“The waste disposal system will also be improved, as the location has been poorly managed and is often intruded by scavenger animals like dogs and cats, leading to rodent infestation.
“We also plan to upgrade the sewerage system to prevent sewage overflow around the dormitory building, considering that the existing system cannot support the increasing number of residents,” he said.
Zulhusni was speaking to SelangorKini after receiving the donation cheque at the opening ceremony of the Middle East Selangor Student Convention on Tuesday (November 5), which was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin also handed over RM10,000 each to the Malaysian Students’ Consultative Council, funded by the state government, and to academic development activities for Selangor students, contributed by the Selangor Muslim Charity Fund.
Meanwhile, Zulhusni said the academic development assistance received will be used to organise Turath knowledge classes, as recommended by the Menteri Besar, including classes to enhance memorisation skills.
For the Malaysian Students’ Consultative Council Egypt’s secretary-general Azwan Mashud, the contribution will be utilised for the Malaysian students’ convocation ceremony in Egypt next year.
“This contribution was initially requested for our convocation ceremony on October 19. We sincerely thank all parties involved for this contribution,” he said.
